Oregon dairy producers proudly open their farms to help policymakers understand modern dairy practices. Through tours organized by the Oregon Dairy Farmers Association and industry partners, elected officials and agency leaders see firsthand how farmers care for animals, protect natural resources, support employees, and operate within a complex regulatory landscape.
These on-farm visits are a cornerstone of ODFA’s educational advocacy — creating meaningful, fact-based conversations that connect policy decisions to real-world outcomes on Oregon’s family farms.
No two farms are exactly alike, but Oregon dairies are united by shared priorities — exceptional animal care, sustainable farming practices, a skilled and valued workforce, and a deep commitment to community and science-based progress. During each tour, participants gain insight into:
Animal health and welfare practices
Daily operations and modern technology and investments
Sustainability efforts, including water, soil, and nutrient management
Inspections and compliance
Tours are tailored to reflect local and regional issues and include opportunities for open discussion with farmers, employees, and industry experts.
Each visit offers a unique opportunity to learn, ask questions, and see firsthand how Oregon’s dairy families are leading with integrity, care, and innovation.
Education is central to ODFA’s advocacy mission. We believe that the best policy decisions come from firsthand understanding — seeing how regulations work on the ground, hearing directly from farmers and employees, and learning about the science and care behind every gallon of milk.
By inviting policymakers onto farms, we help strengthen relationships, dispel misconceptions, and build shared understanding about what it means to farm responsibly in Oregon today.
