The Oregon Dairy Farmers Association (ODFA) proudly announces Rachel Noordam as the recipient of the 2023 ODFA Scholarship. The daughter of Marinus and Flora Noordam of Mount Angel, Rachel's commitment to both agriculture and her community has earned her this distinguished honor.

Growing up amidst the daily operations of AJ Dairy, Rachel's journey has been deeply intertwined with the land and livestock. Her hands-on involvement from a young age nurtured a robust work ethic and an unwavering appreciation for the vital role of agriculture. At the dairy, she helped care for the family’s Grade A registered Holsteins and assisted with diverse tasks, including feeding calves, managing the herd, and contributing to the annual ryegrass harvest and corn silage, Rachel's dedication shines through in her meticulous care and attention to detail.

Rachel's upbringing on the dairy farm has profoundly shaped her perspective on the significance of hard work, dedication, and the crucial role agriculture plays in society. Her genuine love for helping others and making a positive impact in her community led her to pursue a path in education.

"My upbringing has instilled in me a deep connection to agriculture and a desire to inspire young minds," Rachel shared. Her educational aspirations include obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree, followed by a master’s in education, with the ultimate goal of teaching in the very district she calls home.

Beyond her academic pursuits, Rachel has proven herself as a dedicated community leader. Her involvement as a 4-H leader, FFA officer, and active contributor to various local events underscores her commitment to fostering teamwork, effective communication, and community engagement. Rachel's genuine connection with people from all areas of her community, exemplified by her service at local fairs and her participation in Children's Church, showcases her ability to connect and uplift.

Rachel Noordam's journey from a dairy farm upbringing to her promising role as a future educator embodies the values of the Oregon Dairy Farmers Association. Her dedication to agriculture, community, and education embodies the spirit of the scholarship, which seeks to support outstanding individuals to make lasting contributions to the dairy community. The Oregon Dairy Farmers Association thanks the Oregon Dairy Women for their continued partnership by interviewing scholarship candidates and selecting award recipients each year.
