The Dairy Leadership Program is designed for individuals seeking deeper involvement in the dairy community. Through comprehensive training, participants will gain insight into the various programs and key figures shaping Oregon’s dairy industry.
Our aim is to equip motivated individuals with the skills and confidence to assume leadership roles if they choose to, while fostering lasting connections with their classmates and program alumni. By developing personal strengths, and providing tools for success, the program empowers participants to actively contribute and further engage in the dairy community.
Not only will you build a lasting relationship with your fellow classmates, but you join a network of Dairy Leadership alumni. You will also meet and build relationships with allied industry leaders and decision makers at both the state and federal level.
Through a balance of small group discussions, allied industry presentations, experiential learning opportunities, and individualized coaching, you will acquire tools to enhance your leadership skills and contribute to the long-term success of dairy farming or allied businesses and organizations. Build the confidence to step up and engage diverse groups in discussions about critical issues.
At the end of your program, you will visit Washington DC to meet with elected officials and use your newly gained skills to speak on behalf of Oregon dairy farming. You will visit the National Milk Producers Federation, tour the Capitol building and visit other important national landmarks in this all expenses paid trip. During your program, you will have the opportunity to visit a variety of farms and allied industry organizations and facilities.

The program is an 18-month commitment.
Participants are responsible for their own transportation to each activity, except for the trip to Boardman and Washington, DC. ODFA will cover participant’s expenses (hotel accommodations, registration and meals) for the Dairy Farmers Convention in 2024 and 2025. The ODFA Board encourages participation from across the state and would cover air fare and lodging expenses for those traveling a significant distance. Any questions regarding “significant distance” will be decided by the ODFA Board.
There will be a few activities/sessions in the first few months of 2024 and one session approximately every 8 weeks throughout the 18-months. We do our best to workaround harvest and farm obligations. Most training and activities will be held in the Salem area, and most are one day events, with the exception of the ODFA Convention, the overnight trip to Boardman and Washington DC.
